Tacloban’s Tourism Industry
Tourism is one of the biggest contributing factors to the progress of Tacloban, and one that the local government is actively encouraging with the protection and conservation of the city’s natural riches. The area boasts of several beaches and islands which are on par with the more well-known tropical getaways in the other parts of the world, and the city is doing its best to make sure that these attractions get the attention that they deserve from tourists both local and foreign.
Diving happens to be one of the most popular activities which visitors can enjoy while staying in Tacloban. Some of the best diving spots in the area can be found in Liloan, Cuatros Islas, Padre Burgos Jetty, Panaon Island, and Bonga Bend. There are two marine sanctuaries, the Tabugon Fish Sanctuary and the Tagbak Marine Park, while Bonga Bend is a marine protected area. These places boast of numerous types of corals and marine species, which make scuba diving a grand adventure that visitors will not soon forget due to the great natural beauty of the aquatic treasures found in the region. Tacloban also has a number of noteworthy beaches where travellers can go for invigorating swims.
Aside from the tourist destinations found in the city, other businesses that do a brisk trade with visitors are Tacloban’s manufacturers of native products like handicrafts and food items. Two popular handicraft products are mats and brooms while dried fish and preserved shellfish are popular delicacies that are eagerly snapped up by tourists.
